Efficiency in health service through the prism of quality

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to draw attention to searching for ways to improve the efficiency of a health service unit, aimed at improving the quality of medical services. Elements assessing the quality of services from the patient's point of view, from the perspective of a health service unit are likely to be the assessing criteria for the effectiveness of its operations.
In the first part of the article the author defines the concept of quality in health service. She also discusses functioning, in the Polish health service system, of external quality assessment of health service facilities, such as patients' satisfaction surveys, accreditation, ISO certification and the EFQM Excellence Model.
In the second part of the article the author highlights the role of IT solutions in providing the quality of health service. She analyzes the purpose of system implementation and its main characteristics, which affect the efficiency of application in a health service institution.
