Krystyna Polańska Serwisy społecznościowe jako nowy kanał dostępowy do informacji publicznej *** Social media as a new access channel on public information Abstract The article presents an issue of using social networking sites for contacts between public administration and citizens, and indicates possibilities of its further application. As an example Facebook is taken to show how its major, social networking functions can help maintaining good relations between public authorities and citizens, as well as to promote civic education, and to engage the residents in open discussions and information sharing. The main features of social networking sites are indicated in terms of the public information transmission: informative, educational and activating (mobilization) functions.
